An air raid destroys large parts of the Hansaviertel; the post-war years are marked by gaps and temporary structures.
TC 100 by Nick Röhricht, coffee cup & saucer
The TC 100 porcelain series is more than just tableware – it's a piece of design history. Designed in 1959 by Nick Roericht as part of his diploma project at the legendary Ulm School of Design (HfG), this tableware embodies the principles of the Ulm School like almost no other product: functionality, modularity, and timeless aesthetics.
The TC100 coffee cup and saucer exemplifies this principle. Its clean, stackable design allows for maximum efficiency – in restaurants and cafes as well as at home. No superfluous decoration, no trendy frills – just thoughtful design for everyday use.
Characteristics:
Design: Nick Roericht, 1959 (HfG Ulm)
Material: High-quality porcelain, dishwasher safe
Contents: 1 coffee cup (approx. 200 ml) & 1 matching saucer
Special feature: stackable, space-saving, ideal for cafes, restaurants or design enthusiasts.
Background: The Ulm School of Design (1953–1968) was one of the most important design schools of the 20th century and stands in the Bauhaus tradition. Nick Roericht's TC100 was the first student project to go into industrial series production – and remains a symbol of functional industrial design "made in Germany" to this day.
Today: The TC 100 is still used in select cafés and museums – including our own Café Tiergarten in Berlin, where it is served with various coffee specialties. Its minimalist design perfectly complements today's slow coffee culture and the trend towards honest, durable objects.
