An air raid destroys large parts of the Hansaviertel; the post-war years are marked by gaps and temporary structures.
Workshop, a lunch to play
I move through the world with a childlike wonder, noticing the stories and characters that have always been there. During my time working at Café Tiergarten, this perspective has become very food-focused: I see figures in coffee foam and faces in bread. It's a bit like looking at clouds until suddenly, something looks back.
The unintended frog faces in our bread with egg haunt me, while every Sunday I give the stage to twenty bear-shaped cakes (which are very much intended). This has made me curious to explore this way of approaching food together with others.
That's why I'm inviting you to a "Lunch to Play" on May 14th.
It's not a course, but a shared table. A moment to play, create, and eat together.
We will prepare a lunch from organic ingredients and use them to form small landscapes, faces, and creatures. Bread becomes a canvas for clownish faces, an olive becomes an eye, a radish a nose, and even a potato can dream of becoming a mouse.
A small collection of nostalgic children's cookbooks will be provided for the sweetest inspiration.
